Why Me????

Have you ever wondered why God allows certain things into your life? For instance… I have been praying for weeks that my voice stuff would clear up, and I would be able to start singing again. But, here I am… trying to get over pneumonia.

I think God might be trying to teach me patience, and total reliance on Him. I mean, how often do we take on things, thinking we can accomplish them in our own strength? I know I do it too many more times than I want to admit. I was reading in the Psalms, and found a staggering number of verses on God’s faithfulness and grace. Why would we need God’s faithfulness and grace if we were completely independent beings? God created us to think for ourselves, but also with a desperate need to depend on him. I am happy to say that God is always there, even when I am not. That is truly a thrilling thought. WOW!!!!

Taking that hint… I am going to make a more concerted effort to keep my focus on relying on God. God is good, and I am going to cling to that with all my might.

The Future…

Okay, so after being at school a month, I have some updates…

First of all, I think I have found a grad school. I am really excited about it because it offers the major I want- voice pedagogy. Which means [insert drumroll here] I might be moving up to North Carolina next summer!!!!!! I cannot even begin to tell you how exciting that thought is. :-) Fun times… here I come!

Second, I have decided to try for a Met Audition. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is a sort of competition that they hold in each state and the winners then go to regionals, who then go to nationals. Anyway, I am pretty sure that I won’t even make it past the state level, but it would still be alot of fun. It would also be a really good experience for me because we get comments back. So what if they tear me apart. I’ll have the comments of judges that know what they are talking about. I’m happy with that. And, on the off-chance that I do win, I get $1000. To me, it’s really a win/win situation.

Third, I am a voice major, and I have not had one voice lesson this semester!!!!! Yikes! I hate being sick. It is not condusive to a productive singing career. Hopefully, I will be able to have my first official lesson this Tuesday. That would be a blessing. Y’all pray for me now… I need to sing!

Senior Year!!!

Okay… so in like 3 days I am off on the big adventure of college senior!!!!! I am super excited about starting this journey. I got an e-mail from my school about being in the alumni association. I laughed when I got it but I will probably join. Good times. I will have to let all of you know that I am super pumped about my good friends Kate and Matty getting engaged. I was so happy for them. Kate called and left a message on my phone to tell me to call her back because there was something she needed to talk to me about. I knew something was up from the way she sounded on the phone. Needless to say, I was thrilled when she told me. WOW!!!! Very Cool!!!!!! Well, I had better close this one. I need to get back to packing and stuff for SENIOR YEAR BABY!!!!!!!!!

Oh the excitement!!!!

Well, friends, the big news is that my good friends Rachel and Phil got engaged last night. I was so excited to hear! I love it when good things happen to my friends. I knew something was up when Phil was unusually happy/hyper the couple days before they left camp. I think that is so sweet. They met as brother/sister counselors last summer and now they are getting married!!!! Woot Woot!!!!!

I feel this big…

Okay, for those of you who happened to read my August 6th entry and read the bashing that I did of a friend, I appologize. If you haven’t read it and are trying to go back to read what I said, forget it. I deleted it. It was harsh and under the circumstances uncalled for and wrong, and for that I am sorry. What’s worse is that I hurt a friend. Two hurts don’t make it right, obviously. Praise the Lord that we were able to talk and sort things out and now hopefully can continue a friendship.

Two more days…

Well, friends, there are just two more days til we all go home from camp. It’s a little bittersweet, I must say. There has been a lot that has happened in the past few days. For instance…

My mother called me the other day to tell me that my little sister was asked out by a little boy from music camp. Obviously it freaked my mom out because my little sister is only 10 (almost 11). Yeah, so when my mom asked my sister what she said back, Emily replied “ummm, no. I don’t go out.” Whew! Yeah, I told my mom that it has begun. My little sister is beautiful, funny, and very intelligent, so I’m not surprised that she has attracted the attention of some of the boys, even though she is only in the 6th grade. Is that young? I don’t know anymore. I liked boys in 6th grade, but my parents never let me do anything about it. Hmmmmm… something to ponder. HA!

Oh, and props go out to Nic Howe for having the guts to wear such tight shorts in public the other night. I think that that was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time.

Again, Rich, El Shadai?

Oh, and Andrea, my dear, I can’t remember what your job was, but I know that my botox sales have been really good lately.

And to make all of my South Carolina friends mad, its not even 70 degrees here and its nice and breezy. That is one of the big things that I will miss about the north! I love cold weather!!!!!!

The funniest thing happened…

Ok, so you know how they say that kids say the funniest things? Yeah, well they officially do. So I have this shirt that when it falls a certain way, it makes me look slightly pregnant. Its a super cute shirt, but I have to be careful sometimes with it. Well, I was at a party and I was wearing the shirt and this little 4 year old came up to me and said really loudly, “Are you going to have baby?” Her mom looked absolutely horrified! I just laughed. It was soooo funny!

Oh! I found a stash of wonderful blueberries today!!!! How exciting is that? I love blueberries. They are so good for you too. All those anti-oxidents or whatever they are.

Oh by the way…. Nic Howe’s my hero!!!!!!

Hey Rich! Hong Kong! Hong Kong! Oh the joy!!!!! :) :)

And to my good friend Aaron: I am sorry friend. I will be praying for you and your family. Love you all!!!!!!

Almost Done…

Well, I have spent an entire summer here at Northland Camp. I never thought that that would be possible for me to do. As excited as I am to go home, I am really going to miss this place and all the people here. Granted, a lot of them will be back at school with me, but still… it’s hard to leave this kind of setting.

I woke up today with a splitting headache. I hate headaches. Especially when they are sinus headaches that you can’t do anything about. See, here’s the deal… I get sinus infections like every three months or so (which would explain the sinus surgery I will be having at Christmas). So, I know exactly what medicine I have to take with my infections and it has to be prescribed by my doctor. Well, my mom got my meds and was supposed to send them to me… no such luck. I talked to her today and she asked if she should go ahead and send them. It seemed rather pointless to me to send them up here when I will be home in about 5 days, so I must suffer through headache after headache and stuffy nose after stuffy nose. Oh well.
And for those of you who think that a voice major is not a true music major, try this one on for size. I just got my schedule for next semester. I don’t want to even think about all I have to accomplish. You see, the difference in a voice major and say a, oh, I don’t know, trombone major [cough] Dan Howe, is that we not only have to feel the correct technique, but also we have to hear the correct technique and pitch. Singing is a very complicated art form, and I think anyone who says otherwise is just willfully ignorant, for which there is no excuse. End of soap box message.

One last thing for today. I agree whole-heartedly with Mr. Dan Forrest on this one. Sibelius is waaaaaaaay better than Finale.

New and Improved…
